The pace of technological change has been increasing exponentially over the past decade. This creates the need for the UK Armed Forces to be able to leverage technology faster to fill capability gaps or meet or exceed threats from potential adversaries. However, the MOD organisation must manage this scenario within a procurement process that is not designed for rapid acquisition and therefore struggles to deliver capability in the timescales required.

The Force Development team within Army HQ examine novel and disruptive technologies and approaches and associated manpower/force structures for the Conceptual Forces epoch (c.2040/45). This is required to inform a balance of investment to prioritise research and exploitation, to identify gaps in research and areas for efficiency improvement.
